Tasting Notes

The 2018 Russian River Valley Chardonnay comes from three of the oldest vineyards in the Green Valley area of Sonoma County’s Russian River Appellation, which is one of California’s most celebrated sources of Burgundian varietals. Excellent conditions throughout the 2018 season allowed the grapes to mature slowly picking up fresh fruit flavors of apricot, nectarine and lemon zest while they maintained their crisp, natural acidity. In addition to giving the wine a refreshing finish, it’s structure also delivers a lightness on the palate that will make this your go-to white wine.

Best paired with: Your last Zoom call of the day; maybe in your coffee mug to give the allure of "I'm having a late afternoon caffeine-fix so I can power through until 7pm" vibe.

The Story

Let's say that it wasn't 2020 and EVERY restaurant in America wasn't shut down, and you were going to a not-to-be-named 2-Michelin starred restaurant. You might then peruse the wine list and ask the Somm to pair something with your Atlantic Halibut. She tells you that the '90 Montrachet is one of kind, though you're not quite ready to part with a house payment to make it your own. She then recommends a special Russian River Chardonnay from an exclusive Sonoma winery. $110 seems like steal and you pat yourself on the back for showing real restraint.

But we are in 2020 and restaurants were closed for months. This wine had no place to go. We made a connection with the owner and picked up a small parcel of this wine along with its brother, the Russian River Pinot Noir, and we're happy to bring it to you at a steep discount.

193 Cases Produced

Our 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon comes from a critically-acclaimed winery in the prestigious Diamond Mountain District of Napa.  Wines grown in mountain vineyards are highly sought after for their intense flavors, firm tannins, and excellent aging potential.  A wine of this caliber typically commands a price 2-3 times that of our current offering.

The wine was bottled in August of 2016 after aging two years in new French oak.  While it could easily stand on its own merits, we felt a touch of Cab Franc and Petit Verdot rounded out the wine nicely.  This wine can  be enjoyed now with a hearty steak, or will reward those with the patience to let it cellar in the bottle for years to come.

Blend: 92% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Cabernet Franc, and 3% Petit Verdot

Recommended Food Pairings: Roast and grilled beef, lamb, game and fowl; aged cheeses

Serving Temperature: 60-65°

Don't be fooled by the low price:  our 2013 Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir is an incredible find!

Our family (and many of our friends) have been drinking Pinot from this producer for many years.  On a recent visit, we asked if they happened to have any wine they'd be willing to sell us.  Lucky for us (and you) they did!

This bright Pinot from the Sonoma Coast is the most food-friendly wine we offer.  This surprisingly sturdy - yet soft - Pinot Noir has notes of strawberry, cola, and spice with a hint of vanilla on the finish.  You won't be disappointed with this one!

Recommended Food Pairings: Lean roast beef, roast chicken, duck, salmon, lamb and mushroom dishes

Serving Temperature: 57-60°

Recognition

A recent vintage of this winery’s pinot received 94 points from Jeb Dunnuck and the winery had a 100-point rockstar wine within the last 5 years. Additionally, their winemaker was called one of “9 best consulting winemaker’s in Napa” by Robert Parker.

Say you decide to spend your child’s college fund on a cult-wine dinner; no one would bat an eye when put this winery’s stuff in the same lineup as Screaming Eagle, Scarecrow, and Harlan.

Tasting Notes

Classic Burgundy, with the weight of California Pinot. On the nose, aromas of rose petal, earth and hint of vanilla. On the palate, a rich blend of dark cherry and perhaps a black tea note. Finesse and depth, beautifully arranged.

Best paired with: fish, especially salmon, roasted chicken, pasta with red sauce; aged cheeses.

The Story

Sometimes being at the right place at the right time just pays off! Many of our best finds have come through a little-known network of assistant winemakers within the Valley. They all know each other because they all went to UC-Davis, live in the same areas, and frequent the same local watering holes when not in the cellar.

We were sampling a few wines for prospective projects and one of these assistant winemakers told us about a friend of theirs at a well-known St. Helena winery. A few text messages later, we were crawling over barrels sampling some incredible reds.

That chance encounter led to our first two Signature Series wines – those special wines that are a little more than what we would normally like to spend, but were so good that we couldn’t pass up.

A nod to the Right Bank wine-growing region in Bordeaux, Deux sets out to unify all fronts. We’ve married the incredible structure of mountain Merlot with the fragrant and subtly-earthy Cabernet Franc that we used in our previous release. It is also our first collaboration with our youngest brother, Travis, who oversaw the lot-selections and blending.

Think you don't like Merlot?  You haven't had this merlot.  Trust us, you're going to like it!

Blend:  80% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc

Recommended Food Pairings: Grilled beef, roast chicken, lightly-spiced dark meats (in general), salmon & tuna

Serving Temperature: 59-63°

Mid-90 points from Robert Parker's Wine Advocate over the past several vintages, including this one.

Tasting Notes

The wine's aromas have a focused depth: stone fruits, pear, honeysuckle and minerals. Flavors of nectarine and lemon continue through a deep and pronounced finish.

The Story

This very limited wine comes from an allocation-list only winery who limits the Viognier to only their most loyal members. However, they do reserve a case or two for their restaurant clientele...

Here we are in 2020, with restaurants being closed for months. Suddenly, this rare wine had no place to go. We made a connection with the owner, tasted the wine, and confirmed the provenance, then made a deal that we could all be happy with.

Our 2016 Atlas Peak Cabernet Sauvignon came to us by way of a unique set of circumstances. In October of 2017, wildfires burned all around Napa and Sonoma, taking with it many homes and businesses. This winery was one of them. Fortunately, no one associated with the winery was injured, but instead of rebuilding, the owners decided to sell their assets and close the business. That's when we got a call. We tasted this and thought it would fit perfectly in our lineup.

The wine was bottled in April of 2019 after aging twenty months in 100% new French oak.

This wine is one of the most interesting Cabs we have ever produced with a dense, rich, inky purple-colored wine that offers earthy almost charcoal ember-like notes with plenty of blackberry and cassis. This is a substantial, full throttle, full bodied Cabernet Sauvignon built for long term cellaring and should easily last 25+ years in the bottle.

Blend: 100% Cabernet Sauvignon

The previous vintages of this wine sold at the winery for $125+ per bottle!

This is Napa Chardonnay at its finest, coming from the Muir-Hanna Vineyard in the Oak Knoll District AVA (well-known as a source for the legendary Chateau Montelena)

On the nose, tart apple leads to a mellow floral note. At first sip, there is a rich, concentrated mouthfeel of subtle butterscotch, pineapple, and lemon curd with a touch of lingering minerality on the finish. This wine was barreled in 50% new French oak (but please don't let that scare you off - it's incredibly balanced and would never be confused with a "butter bomb"!)

Our Zinfandel offering is big and full-bodied, yet elegant and structured, and decidedly NOT jammy. The wine has had time to mature and integrate in the barrel and is drinking phenomenally well right now - and should continue to - for another 5+ years.

When we taste this, we think of Zinfandel from the iconic producers such as Ridge or Biale. Not bad for our first Zin!
