Consistently 93+ points from multiple reviewers for Stolpman Syrahs from this producer; this Reserve outshines previous releases.
Arcadian wines have been called "genuine benchmarks" with winemaker Joe Davis recognized as a top 100 most influential winemaker in the U.S.
Dense, rich, and vibrant, with no hint of its age besides some slight brick-like color towards the edge of the rim in the glass. The nose gives up dark blue fruits that grows as the wine wakes up from its slumber. On the palate, there is a beautifully rich assemblage of black cherry, spices, white flowers, and mint
Best paired with: Roasted lamb with flavors like allspice, cloves, or mint
This wine was never supposed to be available outside of the winery, and Joe Davis, proprietor at Arcadian Winery, planned to sell this Reserve bottling for $150 per bottle. 2020 being what it was, some plans laid early in the year did not materialize for him and 80 cases of this wine was made available.
“In 2007, I set aside 5 of my favorite barrels and aged them additional year [in addition to the 22 months for our normal bottling]. These came to be known as Don Julio after my cellarmaster who so loved this wine. After bottling, we tucked them away for a long slumber.”
This is the handwritten note we received from Joe when he sent a sample to us. Says it all!
