News and Notes from the Wine Industry
Wine and food pairings (recipes included), an unusual method for aging wine, and shipping regulations to certain states.

Grab a glass of Claudine, sit back, relax, and read about some happenings in the wine industry. Cheers!

Picnic-Perfect Pairings

Wine and food pairings can be challenging to recommend, as wine (and food) are incredibly subjective. But, they sure are fun to play around with! Make a dish, open various wines, and see what works best for your taste buds! Here are some Claudine Wines pairings with the recipes you’ll find in the article below.

Pork Satay: So, they typically recommend a sweet wine with spicy food, but since we don’t currently carry a sweet wine and some folks just don’t care for sweet wine, here are some other options. You could pair this dish with our 2021 White Blend, as the bright citrus notes are simply perfect for a picnic and would work really well if substituted with prawns or chicken. Or, might we suggest our Pinot Noir, slightly chilled, especially if you use all the recommended chilies?

Sweet Corn Fritters: They suggest a Sauvignon Blanc pairing here. Again, we’d have to suggest our 2021 White Blend. It’s light and crisp, just like a Sauvignon Blanc.

Smoked Haddock Scotch Egg: Our lightly oaked Reserve Chardonnay, as suggested here would pair well. Also, our 2021 White Blend has 30% Grenache Blanc, so another great option to try!

Freekah & Herb Salad: I think I’d go with our 2016 Syrah here. The cinnamon in this dish is throwing me off a bit (not necessarily in a bad way), but I’d need to experiment with pairings.

Borekas (mini cheese pies…need we say more?): Anything goes here, really. I personally enjoyed with our 2016 Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon.

Passion Fruit & Raspberry Cake Donuts: Honestly, I don’t eat a ton of desserts. And if I were to eat dessert, I actually would prefer to eat it without a wine pairing. Sorry! I said it! So, this is not my area of expertise. If you love dessert and wine pairings, we’d absolutely love it if you’d let us know which Claudine Wines you paired with these donuts!

If you make any of these recipes and pair them with one of our wines, please drop a comment below or on social media. We will be posting some of our pairings as we make these recipes on Instagram and Facebook and we’d truly love to see and hear from you!

Where Can Claudine Wines Ship?

For those you still new to the Claudine Wines family, allow us to provide some details about shipping wine directly to your doorstep.

We are currently unable to ship to Arkansas, Delaware, Mississippi, Rhode Island, South Dakota, and Utah. These are due to state laws and restrictions.

Some states are loosening their restrictions though! For example, in the past, wine shipped to Alabama had to ship to a local liquor store, but now we can ship directly to your doorstep.

Some states have a limit on the quantity of wine you can receive or prohibit shipments to certain counties. Also, there is an extra process to ship wine to some states. Michigan, Montana, and New Jersey require that each new wine gets approved for shipping. Just a little extra paperwork before we can get it to you.

This article provides a glimmer of hope for us to get Claudine Wines on Rhode Island doorsteps! Cheers to fewer restrictions to allow for a more open market in the wine industry!
